The Darsow Family's Latest Adventures

Breaking News:
Well, it has been pretty uneventful lately so there really is no "breaking new" at the moment. I suppose that no news is good news though! The only really exciting thing in the recent past was that Mom (A.K.A. Grandma) came and stayed for a week this summer. We were all glad to see her again and hopefully we will be going to Minnesota to visit this coming summer. In case you are way behind on family news, you can check out my New Family page to get up to speed on Mom.
Our 2008 Yellowstone vacation:
In addition to our normal routine of mountain camping trips, we decided to take a real vacation this year and spend a few days exploring the many amazing things to see at Yellowstone National Park. Since we only had a limited amount of time to spend in the park this time, we decided to rent a cabin rather than camping out in tents as we did last time. The cabin was a VERY good idea and was well worth the very reasonable $100 per night price tag. We were much more rested in the mornings after sleeping in a real bed and the hot shower, stove, and fridge didn't hurt either!
The cabin was located at Mack's Inn Resort which is just over the Idaho border about 20 miles south of West Yellowstone. It was more than adequate and all we had to provide was our own food and cooking utinsils.
We saw all of the usual sights including: the upper and lower geyser basins, the grand canyon of the Yellowstone River, Mammoth Hot Springs, and (of course) Old Faithful. There was also plenty of wildlife to see. Elk and bison were quite plentiful and coyotes were a pretty regular sight as well. We actually got to see a Grizzly bear this time across a small pond beside the road.Although we would like to have gotten a closer look, better safe than sorry with those brutes!
As beautiful as the scenery at Yellowstone was, the adults probably enjoyed watching the kids as much (if not more) than watching the wildlife and geysers. One of the best moments of the trip was when Mark was heard saying: "This is the best vacation ever. I love Yellowstone...but, when are we going to get to the exciting part?"
