Our Mini Dachshunds
Peanut:
Peanut, the most energetic member of the Darsow family, is our female mini dachshund. Typical of her noble badger hunting heritage, Peanut thoroughly enjoys digging up rocks and other goodies down by the river. She also can not resist looking into any depression in the ground which might even remotely resemble a badger hole. She also has a fondness for barking at and/or chasing squirrels, but birds will do almost as well if no squirrels happen to be available at any given time.
Peanut is notable for her obsessive compulsive disorder which causes her to play fetch for literally hours on end. She is so obsessed with "the ball" that she will only stop playing if you hide the ball or when she collapses from exhaustion.
She has also learned to enjoy swimming in the river and constantly amazes people with her most excellent swimming ability. Although one does not normally think of dachshunds when swimming dogs are mentioned, Peanut seems to think that she is a golden retreiver. In fact, her short legs do not even keep her from venturing out into the current.
Being mostly a house dog, Peanut spends a considerable amount of time protecting her people from the vantage point of the couch. She has a particular affinity for laying across dads shoulders and this is sometimes, literally, a pain in the neck. It also allows her to look out the window and keep a close eye on the local squirrel population.
Although Peanut was unusually quiet (considering the propensity of the breed for being vocal) while she was a puppy, she has recently discovered the joy of barking at "intruders" and has decided that it is her duty to protect the family from strangers, squirrels, and other such dangers. She has also learned that it is just as much fun to protect the car as it is to protect the home.
Brandy:
Born on October 27, 2008, Brandy is the newest member of the pack. She has a beautiful red coat and seems to have even more spunk than Peanut does. She already enjoys playing with balls and other dog toys and playing "chase" with Peanut. In fact, Brandy is usually the one doing the chasing!
